South Korean telecomminications operator, LG Uplus, has disclosed a plan to commence Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) updates and free replacements to all customers. Announcing the new development last week, LG Uplus, owned by electronic giant, LG Group, said the updates would commence in phases starting from April 13, 2026.
According to the company, customers can make reservations by selecting their preferred store, date, and time slot directly through the “store visit reservation” menu in the Uplus One app and on the LG Uplus website. The network provider disclosed that the reservation system was aimed at reducing inconveniences that might arise when customer centre inquiries and store visits concentrate at specific times in the early stage of the USIM update and replacement programme.
It explained that through the reservation system, customers could reduce wait times and receive USIM updates and free replacements more smoothly. The company had since March 30 this year commenced step-by-step guidance on USIM updates and free replacements to all customers via text messages.
The company completed a total of 16.41 million text notifications by April 7, specifying the required procedures based on each customer’s USIM type and whether an update is possible. Customers eligible for a USIM update can take action themselves through the Uplus One app or the LG Uplus website starting on April 13 while customers who want a USIM update or USIM replacement at a store should make a reservation and then visit.
To minimise customer inconvenience in the early stage, LG Uplus is operating a company-wide customer care situation room. It plans to ensure stable operations by comprehensively checking USIM inventory, store operations, and the status of customer inquiries.
