Tata Motors has begun deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to Indian E-Mobility as a Service company, BillionE Mobility, with an order for 250 additional units. The company in a statement said the fleet would be delivered in phases and deployed across freight corridors in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR and Haryana for the movement of steel, cement and other goods.
The first batch of trucks was handed over in the presence of Girish Wagh, managing director and chief executive officer, Tata Motors; Kartikey Hariyani, founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone; and Rajesh Kaul, vice president and business head (Trucks), Tata Motors.
Commenting on the deal, Hariyani said the focus was majorly on building electric commercial solutions for inter-city transportation. “Our focus at Billion Electric Mobility is on building electric commercial vehicle solutions that can be deployed reliably and at scale across real freight operations for intercity routes,” he said along with Sanjeev Kulkarni, chief executive officer of BillionE Mobility.
They added that the company is entering a partnership with Tata Motors as it plans a pipeline of deployments over 6 to 18 months, targeting 1,500 heavy duty units. The Prima E.55S is part of Tata Motors’ electric truck range and is built on its electric vehicle architecture.
It is powered by a 450 kWh battery pack and offers a range of up to 350km on a single charge. “Electric trucking scales when vehicles are built for real operating conditions — duty cycles, uptime, energy efficiency and total cost of ownership,” said Kaul. He added that the vehicle has been developed with an application-led approach and includes features such as an electric axle, battery management system and charging capability.
Tata Motors said it continues to offer commercial vehicles across multiple fuel technologies, including electric, CNG, LNG and hydrogen, supported by its service network.
