Nigerian content creator and tech educator, Eric Gugua, took advantage of the recent brand’s channel partners’ summit in Lagos to highlight key features of HONOR’s newly unveiled X9d smartphone. Honor X9d 5G, released Jan/ Feb 2026, is a rugged mid-range smartphone featuring a massive 8,300mAh battery, 108MP camera, and 120Hz AMOLED display.

The Lagos event, held in Ikeja last, brought together dealers, retail partners and media representatives, as Honor Device Co. Ltd. formally introduced the X9d, outlining its strategy for the Nigerian market where the company commenced operations earlier this year. Presenting the 5G smartphone, Gugua said the device stood out for its market positioning and feature set, noting that it could resonate strongly with younger consumers. He described HONOR’s marketing approach as distinctive in an increasingly crowded smartphone market.

Among the features he spotlighted were the phone’s artificial intelligence tools, including an AI-powered function designed to detect manipulated or deepfake content — a capability he described as timely as artificial intelligence becomes more integrated into everyday digital interactions. On design, Gugua said the X9d does not mimic competing brands, adding that HONOR appears to be entering the Nigerian market with a clear and independent visual identity.

During the summit, HONOR executives presented the device’s specifications to partners. The X9d is equipped with reinforced glass for enhanced drop resistance, water and dust protection, and an 8,300mAh battery, which company representatives said is designed to support extended daily use without frequent charging. National Retail Manager for HONOR Nigeria, Agbebiyi Olatunde Abiodun, said durability and battery performance were central to the X9d’s positioning.

Also speaking at the event, Jaco Guan of HONOR’s West Africa Business Department, described Nigeria as a key growth market, noting that the company plans to expand its distribution network through major retail chains as well as independent dealers. HONOR smartphones operate with full Google Mobile Services and span multiple price segments, ranging from entrylevel models priced below $100 to premium devices exceeding $1,000, including foldable smartphones.

Nigeria’s smartphone market remains highly competitive, with consumers placing strong emphasis on battery life, durability and affordability. HONOR, which previously operated as a sub-brand under Huawei before becoming an independent company, said it aims to attract both former Huawei users and new customers through its expanded product portfolio.
