Environmental scientist warns Port Harcourt residents of heavier rains in July

An environmental geologist, Dr. Giadom Ferdinand, has advised residents of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to prepare for heavier rainfall this July due to the increase in downpours, global warming and other environmental factors.

Dr. Ferdinand, who gave the warning in a statement made available to newsmen recently, said rising sea-surface temperatures in the Eastern Pacific were contributing to significant changes in global climate patterns, resulting in more intense rainfall.

The environmentalist also expressed concern over the recurring flooding experienced across the city during heavy rains, urging the government to implement long-term drainage and infrastructure improvements.

The University of Port Harcourt geology lecturer further blamed poor waste disposal practices for worsening floods, warning that blocked drains would continue to inundate streets unless residents adopt better environmental habits.
