Telecom Egypt has announced its decision not to proceed with the sale of a majority stake in its data centre subsidiary to Helios Investments, citing unmet conditions in the proposed transaction.

The company’s board of directors decided on July 15, 2026, to abandon the deal that was initially disclosed on September 7, 2025. The transaction would have given Helios Investments a 75 percent to 80 percent stake in a subsidiary owning Telecom Egypt’s Regional Data Center Hub, according to a press release statement.

Telecom Egypt said the decision was due to the “non-satisfaction of certain terms stipulated in the executed term sheet, including conditions related to third parties, which are necessary for the completion and proper compliance of the transaction.”

The company stated it would continue with plans to separate its data centre assets and operations into a wholly owned subsidiary, which will focus on developing and expanding data centre operations.

The company also holds a 45 percent stake in Vodafone Egypt and operates a mobile service under the brand “WE.” Its shares trade on the Egyptian Exchange and its global depositary receipts trade on the London Stock Exchange. Telecom Egypt stated the decision will not have financial or operational impact on the company and does not affect existing parties’ rights.
