Anthropic has launched “Claude for Teachers,” a version of its AI assistant aimed at K-12 educators. Free for at least a year, it includes a library of teaching skills and a direct connection to evidence-based curricula mapped to academic standards in all 50 states, created in partnership with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s Learning Commons and its Knowledge Graph.

Anthropic education lead Drew Bent said teachers had found existing AI tools weren’t built to the standards they’re held to. The tool gives teachers access to agentic tools Claude Code and Cowork for analysing class data; data is not used for model training and student information is protected under FERPA. Teachers can sign up until June 30, 2027 for a year of free access.

Anthropic joins OpenAI (ChatGPT for Teachers), Google (Gemini) and Microsoft (Copilot) in the K-12 space. Some educators are sceptical: middle-school math teacher Dylan Kane questioned how much standards-connection matters and warned the tools “risk de-skilling newer teachers.”

Learning Commons president Sandra Liu Huang said models are more useful with Knowledge Graph access, “otherwise AI is guessing on those connections versus knowing.” Cognitive Resonance founder Benjamin Riley said he had tested the tool a little.
